This is a step by step guide by @wizardgold on getting your podcast ‘out there’ at Podcamp Barcelona.

To start with, he advises - only make podcasts about your passions.

For non Mac users he suggests Audacity. He recommends using wordpress (choose a hosted version with adverts so you can make some money too).

  • Next get your podcast on itunes. Godaddy is his wordpress host.
  • Turn your wordpress blog in to something more personal. There are lots of themes to choose from – either a standard one or something more specific.
  • Then install a few wordpress plug ins; he uses a Blueberry podcast plug in. iTunes details can be added in. Click and it’s done… Or you can use Qik video tags. Twitter tools are required so your podcast goes straight on to Twitter. Don’t put too many plug ins on though (no more than 10) as your security risk increases.
  • He also suggests blogger.com and tells us we can get a 10% discount from GoDaddy by using the code POD 146. He uses LibSim to host the podcast files, as he likes the stats that it provides.
  • Next, sign up for everything with your brand name. This enables you to protect your brand. It also links back to your website, so people know who you are. You want everything out there to point back to your blog after all…
  • Ping.fm enables you to stream all your content to all your social media. Also Tumblr, xanga – when you make a post on your wordpress, post up on one of these to synchronise it. You want to be where everyone else is.
  • He recommends Knoem.com and Tubemogul, connected to 12 different video sharing sites so it saves you time by uploading it once here).

Finallly @wizardgold recommends building your reputation online by going in to forums, looking through posts, answering any queries you can…. ‘get involved’.
