CPA Reviews The Dart Group’s Plans for a Tunnel Extension Date
The Central Planning Authority (CPA) in Grand Cayman will review a revised plan for a tunnel expansion the week of March 4, 2018. The tunnel in question is West Bay Road tunnel, located right next to Seven Mile Beach. The planning and construction company that would expand this tunnel is the Dart Group, a very well-known company owned by Kenneth Dart, that owns several properties in the Cayman Islands.
Expanding the tunnel is crucial for both Grand Cayman and its pedestrians. West Bay Road is one of the main streets located in the Cayman Islands and is used by its citizens and visitors alike. The plans for this tunnel include adding 50% of what is currently there.
Although there are no formal complaints from citizens in Grand Cayman for the tunnel, there are some concerns from the Department of Environment and the National Roads Authority. However, the plans The Dart Group has for this tunnel would be extremely beneficial for its users. For example, it would provide roads and walkways at the top of the overpass.
The recent purchase of the Royal Palms property also justifies the need for the West Bay Road tunnel to be extended. Dart is planning on turning this area into a five-star hotel, and thus needs a safe way for users to access it.
